About Supergrans

Christchurch Supergrans is a not for profit, charitable organisation established in 1996 under the auspices of the Home Made Partnerships Trust, which promotes the sharing of knowledge between mature people and those who need encouragement to better enable them to manage their resources. This involves staff and trained volunteers sharing their practical knowledge and skills in cooking, gardening, budgeting and other home skills, giving client families and individuals the capacity to help themselves.

Supergrans provides:

  • An in-home mentoring programme, where clients are supported by volunteers on a one-to-one basis in their own homes.
  • One-to-one budget support and advice in a client's home or at Supergrans premises.
  • Small group courses run from the Supergrans premises. These include cooking, budgeting and sewing.
  • Cooking and budgeting courses at other organisations in the community.

Supergrans supports people in the following areas:

  • Household management and routines
  • Budgeting
  • Advocacy with government departments and other agencies
  • Healthy and economic cooking skills
  • Family menu planning
  • Grocery shopping skills
  • Vegetable gardening
  • Sewing and clothing repairs
  • And some other areas as needed

We have government contracts with The Ministry of Social Development/Family & Community Services, Christchurch City Council and The Tertiary Education Commission. We apply directly to funding trusts for additional funding and raise funds ourselves throughout the year with various fundraising events.
