Volunteer Programme

VOLUNTEERS

Our Supergran volunteers come from all walks of life, and are of all ages. The ability to ‘walk in another’s shoes,’ and the desire to make a difference in other people’s lives, are key qualities our volunteers hold, and what we look for in prospective volunteers.

Our vision is to empower people to help themselves through practical assistance, guidance and advocacy. Therefore our volunteers act as mentors – working alongside clients in clients’ homes to teach them new skills, or strengthen existing ones.

Skills taught include any of the following:

* Household management and routines
* Financial budgeting
* Specific cooking skills; i.e. cooking economical but nutritious meals for families
* Menu planning
* Sensible shopping skills
* Nutrition
* Vegetable garden preparation
* Sewing and garment repair skills
* Household budgeting
* Craft skills

Our aim is to empower and encourage clients to make changes for themselves. Therefore our volunteers work alongside clients, rather than do the work for them.

Our objective is to provide the infrastructure that will both support and enable our volunteers to carry out the very valuable work that they do.

Our goal is to have volunteers who feel supported, confident, valued and rewarded for the huge difference they make to the lives of some of the most vulnerable people within our city.
