TRAINING
The primary aim of the Supergrans volunteer training is to build on existing qualities and skills, and to ensure that volunteers are confident and competent in the work they do with clients.
The training programme comprises eight sessions and covers topics such as:
Policies and procedures
Confidentiality
Occupational Safety and Health
Understanding human rights
Communication
Stress management
Boundaries around safe volunteering practice
Drug and alcohol abuse
Domestic violence
Mental health
Basic first aid
The Treaty of Waitangi
Other social service agencies and support organisations in Christchurch
Ongoing training is provided through monthly fieldwork volunteer meetings. These meetings also provide an opportunity for volunteers to debrief with one another and socialise.
