BREADCASES

Spread one side of as many slices of fresh bread as desired with margarine. Cut the crusts off and press the bread with the margarine side down into muffin tins. Put into an oven at about 150 deg C until dry and crisp. Either use straight away or store in an airtight tin until required.

SAVOURY MUSHROOM FILLING

2 Tbs butter Salt and pepper to taste
2 heaped Tbs flour About 8-10 medium mushrooms
About 1 cup milk

 

 

          Pre heat oven to 150 deg Celsius

  • Melt butter, add flour and seasonings, cook for a minute and then gradually add the milk, stirring all the time until the mixture is a thickish sauce.
  • Wash the mushrooms and chop finely. Add to the sauce and cook for about 5-10 minutes on a low heat. Check the seasonings and add more if desired.
  • Spoon the mixture into the bread cases and place in the oven for about 15-20 minutes at 150 deg C or until heated through. Can top with a little grated cheese before going in the oven if desired.

Alternative fillings could be spaghetti or cream corn topped with a little cheese.
